Flashing the BIOS has never fixed that issue, and never will - it's up to Gigabyte to update their deprecated modules their engineers used to build the ROM images their boards use. They are notorious for choking on syslinux/isolinux errors with USB flash drives formatted to FAT32 and only boot USB sticks that are FAT16 or emulate a ZIP disk. Since this motherboard uses an AwardBIOS 6.00PG, that's not gonna work.

I created the Mint LiveUSB using pendrivelinux because unetbootin kept failing on making the drive bootable as it automatically formats the stick to FAT32. Hmmm, it as if the front USB ports are being powered down or going into sleep/suspend within 15 to 20 seconds of booting up. I know BusyBox automatically detects the insertion and removal of USB devices but don't terminal does or not. and noticed no activity from the terminal. Before registering here, I got frustrated and instead of hitting reset before removing the USB drive, I removed the USB drive. Just a lot of ancient old-school hardware. Both my keyboard and mouse are PS2 instead of USB. It's just the keyboard suddenly stops working.

Īlt+Control+F1 to a full screen terminal mode doesn't work - that freezes, too! That last one it was really gets me: every time I drop from X to a full screen terminal, it'll freezes within seconds.

Restarting X with Alt+Control+Backspace doesn't work. No perceivable evidence of kernel panic - NumLock stays lit on my keyboard, caps lock and scroll lock doesn't blink. Guaranteed freeze at the desktop within 15 to 20 seconds after the USB light stops flashing from loading the Live environment. Regardless of the common command line switches including 'nomodeset" and "radeon.modeset=0" added to GRUB at boot. Regardless of normal and compatibility mode. PROBLEM - no matter what I do or what I try, my Linux Mint LiveUSB freezes solid within 15 to 20 seconds of displaying the desktop.
